"Together we can build a Better Beckley, a Stronger
Raleigh County and a Healthier West Virginia."

"My name is Mick Bates - and I have been committed to making your voice heard in Charleston. Like you, I want my community, state, and country to be a healthier, better place to raise my children, work, and make a life. I'm dedicated to developing the potential that West Virginia has.

"I found that things are a mess in Charleston, but remain dedicated to working for you to represent Raleigh County and ensuring that West Virginians are taken care of. When I arrived at the Capitol last year, I immediately got busy. I sponsored legislation to put coal miners to work and to retrain them for future job opportunities. I have worked on legislation to solve our drug problems, control government spending, and help people stay in West Virginia. I would like to do more.

"If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference - for our families, our community, our county, and our state."

Born in Australia, the son of a coal miner and grandson of a miner that spent 40 years underground, Mick Bates felt at home coming to West Virginia and has lived in Beckley for more than 20 years.

Bates, a Physical Therapist, owns and operates clinics and fitness centers through his company, BODYWORKS, with offices in Beckley and Pineville, and understands the frustrations of small businesses. Through his work, he helps coal miners and individuals within the community get back to work and shares their frustrations with red-tape.

Bates' company, BODYWORKS, employs 19 people and serves thousands throughout Raleigh and Wyoming Counties.

In 2014, Bates won a seat in the House of Delegates. The values - integrity, service above self, cooperation and responsibility - and platform - creating jobs, ending drug abuse, and fixing and building roads - that drove his campaign in 2014 remain the values and focus of Bates' work now. Mick and his wife Pam have 4 children. They are proud to live and raise their family in Beckley.
